Behind the Causes We’re Supporting This April

April is set to be a meaningful month of fundraising at Thrive Group, with team members taking on very different challenges in support of two important causes. Giving back is something that runs through much of what we do, and this month is just one example of that in action.

From a Firewalk in Wells to the Manchester Marathon, members of the team will be stepping well outside their comfort zones to raise money for charities doing life changing work for children, families and individuals who need support most.

Firewalk challenge planned for SWEDA

Kicking things off, Liv, Kat, Marta and Sam are set to take on a Firewalk in support of SWEDA, an organisation that supports people of all ages affected by eating disorders across the South West. On Friday 17 April, the team is due to walk barefoot across hot coals outside Wells Cathedral, raising money to support the charity’s work.

The group is aiming to raise at least £500, which could go towards funding a one-to-one counselling or therapy session, along with a support group session for up to six people. Any extra funds raised will help SWEDA reach and support more people as they work through recovery.

Manchester Marathon run set to back Holly’s Hearts

A couple of days later, Louise Hearsey will take on the Manchester Marathon on Sunday 19 April, raising money for Holly’s Hearts. The charity supports children with cancer and their families, providing gifts, experiences and respite breaks during treatment.

For Louise, the run carries real personal weight. She is doing it in memory of Holly Prince, who died in 2022 aged five. Holly’s older sister is a close dance friend of Louise’s daughters, which has made the cause especially close to home for Louise and her family.

By lining up for the marathon, Louise is helping Holly’s family continue the work behind the charity, giving other families practical support and something hopeful to hold onto during an extremely difficult time.

Two events, one shared focus

While a marathon and a firewalk have little in common on the surface, the motivation behind them is the same.

At Thrive, the focus is on showing up for people, through work, through local communities, and by backing the causes team members choose to support. These April fundraisers are one part of that wider commitment and a powerful show of support for causes that matter deeply.
